Getting There The Lodge At Schroon Lake Other Lodging Restaurants Attractions Hiking Backpacking Canoeing Fishing

The Adirondacks are one of the great fresh water fisheries in America. The lakes, ponds, rivers and streams are full of Salmon, Lake Trout, Large and Smallmouth Bass, Walleye, Northern Pike, Smelt, Pickerel, Crappie, Bullhead, Yellow Perch, Rock Bass and Pumpkinseed.

And there's fishing here year round. Ice fishing is hugely popular and some of the biggest fish on record have been caught through the ice.

Once again, The Lodge At Schroon Lake is an ideal place to stay if you're here for fishing. Schroon Lake (photos above and right) has all the species listed above and with 4,000 acres of surface, nine miles long and 24 miles of shoreline, there's plenty of room to spread out and find your private spot.

Daily limits are Rainbow Trout, five of any size; Lake Trout at least 18" long and two a day, with Salmon at least 15" long, and up to three a day.

And Paradox Lake (photo, left) is just a five mile meandering paddle up the Schroon River (above the lake) or out the road east from Route 9 just north of the town of Schroon Lake. Paradox Lake is five miles long, one mile wide, 19 feet deep, covers 896 acres and is full of Rainbow Trout, Lake Trout and Salmon.

If you want a little backcountry fishing, The Lodge At Schroon Lake is ideal for that, too. A short drive around the lake (see hiking page for specific directions) brings you to several trail heads into Pharoah Lake, Spectacle Lake (photo, right), Crane Lake, Gull Lake, Eagle Lake, and several others within a reasonable hike. All are full of fish and lightly fished. You're likely to catch Brown Trout, Bullhead, Brook Trout, Splake (a cross between Brook and Lake Trout), Black Bass and Brown Trout, although not all are present in every lake. It would help to carry a canoe, guideboat or even some sort of inflatable so you can fish the deeper waters.
