Frisco is an east-west strip of the island between Hatteras Village and Buxton. If you envision Hatteras as a reversed L, Frisco is most of the cross bar. The northern edge of Frisco borders Pamlico Sound. The southern edge is mostly high dunes and forest facing the ocean beach. This expanse of forest, dunes and beach is where most of the horseback riding on the Outer Banks occurs, mostly radiating outward from Equine Adventures Stable on Piney Ridge Road. Frisco has the island's only airport (with its half hour and hour long trips up and down the island) and golf course, its best two campgrounds, and the Native American Museum, a surprisingly impressive collection of historical artifacts with a spectacular Annual InterTribal Powwow. Frisco only has two restaurants but they're very good.

Frisco Sandwich Company serves not only Sandwiches but also Wraps, Subs, Paninis and several specialties. You can get a good House, Shore, Pasta or Caesar Salad here. We like the Shore, with its chopped romaine, ham, turkey, cheddar and veggies. Their Fried Pickles, Potato Salad, and Cider Vinegar Cole Slaw are fine sides. Specialties include a Crabby Patty (housemade crab cake), Pulled Pork BBQ, Cowabunga (grilled half pound beef patty), Chicken Salad Sandwich and Black Bean Burger (with pimento cheese, sprouts, sliced avocado and herb mayo). They offer six Wraps. The Club contains ham, turkey, bacon, cheddar, provolone, romaine, and tomatoes. The Muff has ham, capicola, salami, roast red pepper, black olives, romaine, and red wine vinaigrette. The Mellow Mushroom offers mushrooms, tomatoes, feta, almonds, romaine, and a balsamic vinaigrette. There's also Aloha, Tree Hugger, and Chicken. They serve five Subs, six Paninis, and six Breakfast Sandwiches. The Italian Sub or Panini contains capicola, ham, salami, provolone, banana peppers, tomatoes, romaine, mayonaise and Italian dressing.
The Coastal Grill serves a very upbeat, cutting edge menu. Even its Appetizers set the tone : the Nacho Pancho is roast shredded pork, black beans, pico de gallo, lettuce, cheese, sour cream and pickled jalapenos over homemade tortilla chips. There are Wings, Grouper Bites, Calamari, Shrimp Seviche, Cabbage Rolls, and Tuna Avocado. They offer a very good Clam Chowder or a Seafood Soup, and three Salads. There are four Sandwiches and three Tacos. For Entrees, you choose from Chicken, Vegetable Curry, Seafood Pasta, Wild Mushroom Stuffed Ravioli, Ribs, Tuna Steak, Shrimp & Grits and Kentucky Bourbon Maple Glazed Salmon. Their Signature Dishes are Shrimp, Scallops, Snapper and a Seafood Platter. This is the newest restaurant on the island but it's already a favorite among Frisco and Hatteras Village residents and renters.
